PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center
Measure: Antibiotic selection for patients in ICU

Time Period Ending:  12/31/2012

Rate: 89%

What We Are Doing:
Guidelines for the treatment of pneumonia, based on the best and most current research, have been distributed and are available to all physicians in all patient care areas. If the guidelines are simply not followed, we make every effort to educate staff regarding the need to do so. It is often the case that a concurrent infection exists, for which the measure cannot account, necessitating a combination of antibiotics that do not meet the measure's requirements. This situation is responsible for much of the reported rate.
