PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center
Measure: Develop and test practices to prevent blood stream infections associated with venous catheters that will be fully implemented by January 1, 2010.

Time Period Ending:  3/31/2013

What We Are Doing:
NPSG.07.04.01 - Implement evidence-based practices to prevent central line–associated bloodstream infections.
Note: This requirement covers short- and long-term central venous catheters and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) lines. PeaceHealth  St. John Medical Center uses Best Practice Guidelines for insertion and management of venous catheters that has been strictly followed for years. Although extremely rare, if we do discover an infection, we investigate immediately to determine the cause. Our use of best practice protocols is measured and reported to a Washington State agency that oversees infections in hospitals.
